Baked Maple & Pecan French Toast

This is a delicious recipe for french toast hat requires a little bit of pre-planning because you're actually going to leave it overnight and cook it up the next day.

So if you've got a bit of time on a Friday or Saturday evening, this is the perfect time to make it up so that you can have some tasty french toast for breakfast the next morning.

I'm also I big fan of pancakes (I'm a glutton I know), and if you want to know how to make pancakes that are simply delicious, you can check out that great recipe too.

Ingredients

1 loaf French bread, sliced (1 inch thick)
4 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tspn vanilla extract
2 tblspns butter, melted
maple syrup
1 cup milk
1/4 tspn ground nutmeg
1/2 cup pecans, chopped
cooking spray

Directions

  1. Add to a mixing bowl the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla and nutmeg and whisk together.
  2. Spray bottom of casserole dish with cooking spray.
  3. Create a layer of bread on the bottom of the casserole dish.
  4. Pour the egg mix over the bread, making sure it is evenly spread.
  5. Give bread a minute to soak before flipping the bread slices.
  6. Cover the dish with cling film and refridgerate overnight.

Next Day

  1. Pre-heat oven to 425°F/220°C
  2. Remove cling film from dish and spread pecans over the top before pouring the melted butter over the lot.
  3. Cook for around 25 minutes. Bread should be puffed up and pecans should be nice and brown.
  4. Serve the french toast with some maple syrup
